POSTDATA
Side project of Wintersleep singer-guitarist Paul Murphy, Postdata is the result of Murphy and his brother Michael penning tunes for their mom over a bottle of Scotch at the family home in Yarmouth, NS. 12 ideas were born, most of which got reworked eight months later in Halifax with proper mics and click tracks and turning into the self titled, self released debut album.
Postdata slows things down, with a grittier, rawer edge than Juno Award winning Wintersleep. With great honesty and intimacy, Murphy sings songs he’s written both for and about his family, with a vulnerability that demands to be heard. The songs are stripped down and powerful, channeling a sadness that often has no end. It's more than melancholy, it's the type of sad that brings few answers and only more questions. It's pleading to know why and if they are ok. Instead of being a vessel to get things off his chest, Postdata sounds like the Murphy brothers are reaching out for something to hold, only to see the horizon move farther and farther away.
BRIAN BORCHERDT

After a few years with Canadian indie pioneers By Divine Right, Brian Borcherdt went off on his own to pursue two projects: the world touring, Polaris/Juno nominated Holy Fuck as well as his own solo career. While his solo career is worlds apart from the experimental Holy Fuck, both show a bold focus. Where Holy Fuck is uncompromising in its weirdo beat-driven noise, his solo work is uncompromising in its sparse, moody aesthetic.
JULIE FADER

While not on tour or exhibiting as a visual artist, Julie Fader used the downtime to record her own songs, enlisting the help of some of her talented friends. Chad VanGaalen, Tony Dekker (Great Lake Swimmers), Brian Borcherdt (Holy Fuck), Sarah Harmer, and Justin Rutledge all contributed vocals. Pete Hall (A Northern Chorus) played drums, guitar and lap steel. Erik Arnesen (Great Lake Swimmers) played banjo. Erin Aurich (Hey Rosetta!) played violin. Dean Stone (Apostle of Hustle) and Daniel Romano (Attack In Black) played drums. OUTSIDE IN was recorded and produced by Graham Walsh of Holy Fuck (who provided much of the albums instrumentation) in Fader’s home, various Toronto locations, and at Dave King’s Barn in Caistor Centre, Ontario.
