Rapper Big Pooh:
A former member of the highly respected and recently disbanded hip-hop group Little Brother, Rapper Big Pooh has seen how much hip-hop and the business of music has changed over the years. Having ridden the music industry roller coaster since 2003 when Little Brother received critical acclaim as indie darlings, to getting a taste of the major label politics when they signed with Atlantic Records, to reverting back to being indie and then amicably disbanding the group, Pooh's been around the block. Undeterred, Pooh, who by nature doesn't sweat the small stuff, continues to push forth and do what he does best; work diligently to create new music, expand on his sound as a solo artist, and connect with his ever-growing fan base.
DL Incognito:
Canadian recording artist, DL Incognito’s name may signify “Delivering Lyrics on the low, Incognito,” but it is his delivery that has secured a spot in Canada’s hip hop scene. After three Juno nominations, five full length LPs, and several tours across Canada; word on the street is, DL Incognito is one of the best MCs that Canada has ever produced.
“I keep trying to improve on the things that have allowed me to build a strong grassroots fan base,” DL says. “I think it’s just evolution over revolution – the little changes that I hope will perfect my original ideas.”
Keeping the old school ethics of Hip Hop as a foundation, DL looks to golden era’s artists for inspiration, striving for longevity and consistency. “I think that’s what it’s all about, having lyrics without always preaching.”
According to DL Incognito, his success as a Canadian rap artist takes a special sort of commitment and dedication.
“I would say being a Canadian artist means being humble, resourceful and independent.” Says DL. “In order to succeed, you need to tour and reach out to other markets, big and small. Hip hop lives just about anywhere. I’ve been lucky enough to expand my brand beyond traditional hip-hop circles and branch out into ski, skate and snowboard culture. The support comes from everywhere.”
